More than 210,000 people affected by flooding in Cambodia

In the past few days, affected by tropical storms, a new round of heavy rainfall has covered 19 provinces and cities in Cambodia.
The Cambodian National Disaster Management Committee said that as of the morning of the 16th, 18 people had been killed in the continuous floods, including 8 children, and more than 50,000 families were affected by the floods.
The Cambodian National Disaster Management Committee also reported that 50,000 houses, 439 schools, 130,000 hectares of rice fields, and many roads and bridges were flooded and damaged.
The flood caused by this round of heavy rains also hit the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.
On the evening of October 13th, the rainfall in Phnom Penh broke the historical extreme, reaching 197 mm per hour. In addition, the Baitno River flooded due to heavy rains. The flood flooded the southern part of Phnom Penh City, causing more than half of the Lango District to fall into floods.
As of the evening of the 15th, the stagnant water in Lango District has not subsided, but the continuous rainfall and the continuous rise of the water level of the Baitno River have aggravated the flood disaster.
From the pictures taken by the local TV station, it can be seen that the Lango District of Phnom Penh is still in a state of large areas of stagnant water. In some places, the water is deep and the roof of some low-lying houses is exposed.
Officers and soldiers of the local armed forces used speedboats and boats to evacuate the affected residents to safety.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen rushed to the Lango district of Phnom Penh that was hit by floods late on the 15th to guide disaster relief work and condolences the victims.
Hun Sen promised that the government will use all resources to take emergency measures such as flood discharge in a timely manner to help people resume their normal lives as soon as possible.
Hun Sen requested that the armed forces go all out to carry out disaster relief work, help people threatened by floods to evacuate urgently, and minimize the loss of life and property caused by floods.
He also emphasized that the public must be vigilant, pay attention to changes in the disaster situation at any time, and take appropriate measures in time.
Hun Sen said that in the 24 hours after the flood, the government received donations from enthusiastic people of all walks of life totaling approximately US$6 million.
The government will invest donations in disaster relief, repair roads and help people rebuild their homes.
