Yang Changfeng, Chief Designer of Beidou Systems: Beidou chips are all "Chinese chips"

  Our reporter Cui Shuang

"Can the vehicle use the Beidou system to achieve one or two meter accuracy and second-level error navigation?" an audience asked.

"There is still a gap in the positioning accuracy and reliability of the Beidou system alone." Yang Changfeng said frankly, but with a more powerful foundation enhancement system, coordination between vehicles, and the construction of lane auxiliary facilities, lane-level recognition can be achieved, or even achieved. unmanned.

On September 5, at the comprehensive exhibition area of the 2020 China International Trade Fair, the Beidou satellite navigation system model attracted visitors.

After a few conversations, the "high-cold" Beidou system seamlessly connects with daily life.

Recently, the National Committee of the CPPCC Major Project Committee held a presentation meeting in Beijing. Yang Changfeng, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and chief designer of Beidou satellite navigation system engineering, gave a presentation on the topic of "Beidou Satellite Navigation System Development and Convergence Application".

Some members of the CPPCC National Committee, CPPCC members, cadres of the CPPCC organs, and student representatives of the "simulation CPPCC" social practice activities in Beijing participated in the publicity activities.

The overall output value of the satellite navigation and location service industry has an average annual growth of about 20%

Yang Changfeng explained the principle of satellite navigation in layman’s terms: Based on the principle of three-sphere convergence, the user’s three-dimensional position coordinates are calculated by measuring the distance between more than three navigation satellites and the user’s receiver. "It sounds mysterious, but we are engaged in navigation. I understand it as soon as I hear it." He said with a smile.

The construction of a high-performance and highly reliable global satellite navigation system is one of the 16 major special projects of my country's mid- and long-term development plan in the field of science and technology. It took nearly 30 years to build. The Beidou system is by far the largest in my country, with the widest coverage and service performance. The tallest, huge and complex space system most closely related to people's lives.

"The Beidou system is a "world-wide network" composed of working satellites in the space segment, ground segment, user segment, more than forty ground stations, and thousands of user terminals." Yang Changfeng said.

The status of "this network" is self-evident. As an important support for the country's economic and social development, it is the third largest economic growth point after mobile communications and the Internet. The overall output value of my country's satellite navigation and location service industry has averaged an annual average for 10 years. With an increase of more than 20%, the output value in 2020 is expected to exceed 400 billion yuan.

The global positioning accuracy is equivalent to GPS, and the local area is better than GPS

How does Beidou perform compared to GPS systems?

"Beidou is the most powerful global satellite navigation system." Yang Changfeng said that the Beidou system has created three orbital hybrid constellations, adding precision single-point positioning, satellite-based enhancement, regional short message communication, international search and rescue, and global short message. New functions such as communication can broadcast better navigation signals. "Global positioning accuracy is equivalent to GPS, and local areas are better than GPS."

For example, in North America, Africa, Europe and other places, Beidou's positioning accuracy is about 5 meters, and in the Asia-Pacific region it can be accurate to 2.5 to 3 meters.

In addition to real-time navigation and rapid positioning, the Beidou system also has features such as position reporting and short message communication.

As Yang Changfeng said, Beidou service is by your side, "As the world's most advanced navigation system, its application is'limited only by human imagination'."

Especially the short message service that can "send short messages" with the Beidou system is not available in any other global satellite navigation system abroad.

Yang Changfeng revealed that by the end of the year, it is expected that Huawei mobile phones with added short message function will be released, and lane-level navigation may also be carried.

Star-to-earth interconnection

Yang Changfeng said that the Beidou system has inter-satellite links to achieve inter-satellite and satellite-to-ground interconnection.

He further explained that the Beidou-3 system uses the Ka-band phased array link to organically connect 30 satellites with dozens of domestic ground stations, which greatly improves operational capabilities, safety and positioning accuracy, and directly provides spacecraft Measurement and control transmission and data transmission services, "Without ground support, satellites can operate autonomously for 60 days, and the upper and lower links are not interfered by the atmospheric ionosphere, and the positioning accuracy is significantly improved." This is its "unique skill."

In the military parade on the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the ground team's time error was only within 0.3 seconds, the distance error was within plus or minus 10 centimeters, and the air echelon did not differ from one meter to a second, all thanks to Beidou.

"Beidou core" is "Chinese core"

After years of development, Beidou has formed a complete industrial chain, basic products have achieved independent controllability, domestic Beidou chips, modules and other key technologies have comprehensive breakthroughs, and performance indicators are comparable to similar international products.

A variety of Beidou chips have achieved large-scale applications, with a process level of 22 nanometers.

Speaking of the "Beidou core" that has received the most attention, Yang Changfeng said bluntly, "It can be called all Chinese chips," and "Beidou chips are of the same magnitude as the basic level abroad."

"It's all done by myself." He said that the ground is also entirely Chinese core, and the power consumption will be lower and the accuracy will be higher in the future.

On July 31, 2020, the Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system was completed and officially opened for service. This marks that China's self-constructed and independently operated global satellite navigation system has been fully completed, and China Beidou has opened a new chapter in high-quality global service.

But this is not the end of Beidou system construction. According to Yang Changfeng, the design life of a Beidou navigation satellite is 10 to 12 years. Judging from the experience of Beidou II, the satellite can serve for 12 to 14 years, and then enter the "grave." Orbit" will be replaced at that time.

Before 2035, my country will build a more ubiquitous, more integrated, and smarter national integrated positioning and navigation timing system to provide core support for future intelligent and unmanned development, continue to promote system upgrades, and build systems that cover the sky, earth, and sea, A spatiotemporal information service infrastructure with unified benchmarks, high precision, high intelligence, high security and high efficiency.
