• The debate: Congress will debate on days 21 and 22 the motion of censure of Vox against Sánchez

  • Congress. Vox's three strengths for the motion: virus, democratic "degeneration" and "electorate fraud"

  • Politics Santiago Abascal will be the candidate in Vox's motion of censure and will promise to call elections

"Sometimes the best decision is not to make any decision, and that is also a decision," proclaimed Mariano Rajoy in one of his most famous tautologies, very much in the line of

Pío Cabanillas

, who used to repeat that "the most urgent thing is to wait ".

Pablo Casado learned that lesson in his first months as president of the PP, after making some tactical mistakes.

But now he clings to it with

Marian

impetus

, and that is why he has not yet revealed what the PP will vote in the motion of censure that Vox has presented against Pedro Sánchez, and that will be debated on October 20 and 21.

The debate of the

popular

directive will

be decided at the beginning of next week, at the latest, but everyone already has their opinion.

This newspaper has been able to probe that, today, there is practically unanimity among the national leaders of the PP when rejecting Vox's motion of censure.

All those consulted by EL MUNDO want to vote "no".

"I think we should vote no. We lean towards no, clearly. As far as I know, everyone is in no", says one of the vice secretaries.

Like him, other leaders of the Genoa dome prefer that the party oppose the motion of Santiago Abascal for the simple reason that "the numbers do not give" and, therefore, "it only serves to reinforce Pedro Sánchez", and even to facilitate the grouping of your potential budget partners.

"Here [in Genoa] there is no debate. The entire leadership is more in no than in abstention," reflects another of the leaders of Casado's immediate surroundings.

Of course, no one wants to get wet in public.

Not before Pablo Casado establishes the final decision of the party.

There are "pros and cons"

"But I don't know what would have to happen for us to finally go on to abstain," concedes a senior national PP official.

However, another leader alludes to prudence, because "it is a complicated issue and the two positions have advantages and disadvantages."

Outside of Genoa there is also unanimity when it comes to rejecting the motion, but there is some debate around the great election: abstention or against.

For example, in the parliamentary group, where there are a handful of deputies who favor abstention.

Former spokeswoman Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo was the first to flag the blank vote, while José María Aznar clearly bets on the frontal refusal.

Even a former leader like Esperanza Aguirre would see good support for Santiago Abascal.

The motion is considered a litmus test for the PP, but it is not clear that Pablo Casado will contest it.

"It has not been decided, but because that issue has not yet been debated," says another PP leader.

"We have not sat down to talk about this yet; the press is very interested, but not so much to us," ironizes another.

García Egea: "We are not going to support it"

The position of the PP on the motion of censure was set, without yet deciding the direction of the vote, the general secretary, Teodoro García Egea.

In an interview with this newspaper, last Monday, he assured: "We are not going to support her. We will not participate in this circus. Sánchez needs the motion and has been asking Abascal for a long time, because he needs to reinforce his majority."

The

number two

of the PP regrets that the debate shows another "defeat" of the self-proclaimed constitutionalism.

"It is not that reasons for censorship are lacking; votes are lacking. Vox is deceiving the Spanish people. A motion of censure is not a rally: no one censored Sánchez more than the PP," García Egea said.
