In Thailand, hundreds of pro-democracy demonstrators took to the streets of Bangkok this Thursday, October 15, defying the ban on gatherings of more than 5 people decreed earlier by the Thai government.

The protesters who have dared to challenge the powerful monarchy for several months, demand the departure of the Prime Minister, Prayut Chan Ocha, and the immediate release of their leaders.

A peaceful sit-in of several hundred people is taking place right now in central Bangkok, as the government declared a state of emergency at 4 a.m. this morning, banning any gathering of five or more people, and the online posting of messages that could harm national security.

The demonstrators demand the “

 release of their friends

” more than 20 people were arrested, among them, Parit Chivarak and Anon Numpa, two of the leaders of the movement, the most virulent against the monarchy.

The turn of the screw is explained by the affront of a part of the young Thai who dared yesterday the unimaginable: to challenge the royal authority, by brandishing three fingers to the passage of the vehicle of the king and the queen.

The gigantic demonstration had brought together more than 10,000 protesters.

The Thai monarchy is protected, let us remember, by one of

the most severe

lese majesty laws

in the world.

The situation could change at any time, the army has been deployed around several government buildings.
