The FSB of Russia suppressed the activities of the interregional cell of the international terrorist organization Katiba Tawhid wal-Jihad *.

The members of this association planned to commit a terrorist attack on the territory of Russia, the FSB Public Relations Center reported.

“The coordination of terrorist activities was carried out from the territory of Syria.

The objects of aspiration were the buildings of the authorities, places of residence of military personnel and explosive and fire hazardous enterprises, ”the department said.

According to the ministry, during the arrest, the ringleader and his accomplice tried to extract "means of terror" from a pre-equipped cache.

The attackers put up armed resistance to the FSB officers and, as a result, were neutralized.

Firearms, ammunition, chemical components and submunitions for improvised bombs, religious literature, as well as a map of Volgograd with the planned locations of the terrorist attacks marked on it, were found and seized at the scene and at the radicals' addresses.

Along with this, other members of the interregional cell were detained in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, Maikop and Volgograd, in respect of whom procedural decisions are being made.

When inspecting the scene of the collision, an AKS-74U assault rifle, three loaded magazines, two F-1 grenades and 1 RGD grenade were found at the militant.
