"The terms of the technical investigation of the accident have been extended until October 30 inclusive," TASS quotes him.

Earlier, Norilsk Nickel estimated the environmental damage from the accident in Norilsk at 21.4 billion rubles.

In September, Rosprirodnadzor filed a lawsuit against JSC Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company (part of the Norilsk Nickel Group) with a claim for compensation of 147.7 billion rubles after a fuel spill at CHPP-3.

The Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev called the failure to comply with industrial safety requirements, weak control and ineffectiveness of the oil spill prevention system as the causes of three man-made accidents in the Norilsk region in 2020.

The fuel spill at CHPP-3 in Norilsk occurred at the end of May.
