Gunnar Appelgren has worked against serious organized crime for many years in Södertälje as well as Rinkeby and Sörmland.

He has led several operations against gangs.

At the police station in Uppsala, he will from November coordinate the work against the gangs.

- I will support issues around vulnerable areas, firearm violence, riots - and get a regional situation, says Gunnar Appelgren.

Recruited by the new boss

- It will also be about sparsely populated areas.

I have to be humble and learn, listen.

It is Region Mitt's new police chief Ulf Johansson who recruited Appelgren.

They have both worked closely in Stockholm.

- Above all, I want him to work forward with my managers here on how we set up the work in the vulnerable areas.

How we work in sparsely populated areas that are located in small towns where a few criminals can affect society a lot, says Ulf Johansson, regional police chief.

"Look at individuals"

- We will also look at the operational management of the region.

What we need to do further to keep track of networks, keep track of individuals.

Gunnar has very good experiences there, which we will benefit from.

Has there been a lack of that kind of control here before?

- No, I think you have a good grasp.

But now it's important that we tighten the bow and really work to reduce firearm violence.

Gunnar Appelgren himself thinks that his competence fits in quite well with the challenges that exist in the Central region.

Can Uppsala's gang tremble now?

- Haha, I do not know.

But we will be even sharper and they will probably feel that we increase the pressure in different ways.
