Filippo Callipo, supported by the Pd, with 30.14% of the votes, Francesco Aiello supported by the M5s, who had totaled 7.35% of the votes, and Carlo Tansi, at the head of 3 lists, had lined up against Santelli civic, with 7.22% of the votes.

Spirlì: "Go on with Jole's project"

"With Jole I lose a fraternal friend, a part of my family, a wonderful accomplice of many projects, of many dreams for this Calabria of ours. Dreams we shared from the first day of our friendship . I lose the president of the Region I have always wanted. I lose a part of me. With Jole I say goodbye to a part of my enthusiasm, because with her we have learned to share everything, like good brothers, sometimes arguing a little, but the more often than not smiling. She was an ironic, curious, nice, eccentric, artistic, imaginative, far-sighted woman. Calabria loses a great governor ".

So Nino Spirlì commemorated the president of Calabria.

"I hope that today - he said - all Calabrians are united in this immense pain. A warrior has died, a policy that has made the protection of women's rights a flag and has never bowed to excessive powers of any kind. . We, as far as we can, will work tirelessly to carry out Jole's political project. It will not be easy without her. Those that come our way will not be easy days, but we will do everything we can not to waste her assets human, political and administrative ".

Columnist, television author, avowed homosexual and practicing Catholic, Spirlì had sparked a controversy a few days ago for having claimed the freedom to use certain terms to which, in his opinion, lobbies, have given a derogatory and homophobic meaning.

The video with his speech, delivered in Catania delivered in Catania, as part of the "Pontida del Sud" promoted by his party in support of the leader Matteo Salvini, went around the web and Spirlì himself published it on his profile Facebook.

Then he presented himself on the stage of the rally in Taurianova, to celebrate the new Northern League mayor of the municipality of Reggino, with the scapular of the Madonna del Carmine.

"Everyone has the right to disagree, as long as it is done with respect for the people", he said, commenting on the protesters who displayed signs reading "Racism and Homophobia are not culture!"

He then explained his faith in the virgin and in that symbol of religion: "The Carmelite scapular is a devotional instrument of the Madonna del Carmine, I wear it 24 hours a day, even when I sleep and I'm in the shower, but in that if I wear a wooden one, so as not to get it wet, this is the rite, respect for the Madonna del Carmine who protects me ".
