October 15, 2020The daily bulletin of the ministry of health has become increasingly alarming for days.

The confirmation of the criticality of the situation also comes from the periodic monitoring of the Gimbe foundation In the last week the cases of Covid in Italy have doubled compared to the previous one, with a strong increase also in hospitalizations and patients in intensive care, compared to an increase mild tampons.

The Gimbe foundation from 7 to 13 October detected 35,204 infections against 17,252,5076 hospitalized with symptoms compared to 3625 and 514 intensive care hospitalizations against 319.

The boom, the Foundation emphasizes, was in the face of a moderate increase in the cases tested ( 505,940 versus 429,984) and a net increase in the positive / case ratio (7% versus 4%).

From an epidemiological point of view, the foundation writes, currently positive cases are growing (87,193 vs 60,134).

From the point of view of the capacity of testing and tracing, the regional performances are very variable: compared to a national average of 838 cases tested per 100,000 inhabitants, the number varies from 523 in the Marche to 1,276 in Tuscany.

The virus circulates in a sustained manner

The increase in the positive / tested cases ratio confirms that the virus circulates in an increasingly sustained manner.

"The value exceeding 6% in almost all Regions - we read - demonstrates an overload in the tracing and isolation of outbreaks and requires an urgent strengthening of the territorial services responsible for testing and tracing. Compared to a national average of 7%, range varies from 2% in Calabria to 16.4% in Valle D'Aosta.

"The effects of the measures of the new DPCM, comments the president Nino Cartabellotta, as well as not being able to be assessed before 3 weeks, will be partially neutralized by the exponential increase in infections and further overload of health services due to the flu season.

"This is why the GIMBE Foundation appeals to a sense of responsibility and maximum collaboration between the Presidents of the Regions and local administrators, first of all mayors: promptly intervene with local restrictive measures, including targeted lockdowns, to extinguish outbreaks, stem widespread contagion and prevent the overload of hospitals. Otherwise, continuing the trends of the last few weeks - according to the scenarios envisaged by the new circular of the Ministry of Health - the risk of wider restrictions (including lockdown) is around the corner ".
