European countries have reimposed measures to confront the outbreak of the new Corona virus in a second wave, which the World Health Organization considered its course "very worrying", while more politicians around the world were affected by this epidemic.

While a night curfew begins in France on a large scale, the authorities announced Thursday evening that more than 30,000 cases of corona have been recorded within 24 hours, which is the highest daily rate since the outbreak of the epidemic, and it comes after expanding the scope of examinations.

"At 21:00, everyone should be home. All places, shops and services will be closed," French Prime Minister Jean Castex said Thursday.

He added that "all private parties" organized "in multi-purpose halls or any other facility receiving an audience" across the country will be banned, and that restaurants in France will have to implement enhanced health measures.

The curfew applies between 21:00 and 06:00 for a period of 6 weeks in Paris and other major cities such as Lyon, Marseille and Toulouse, including about 20 million people out of the country's total population of 67 million.

Preparedness in Britain

In Britain, the government on Thursday raised the level of alert from medium to high level in London and 7 other regions in England, namely, Essex, Elbridge, Barrow, York, Northeast Derbyshire, Chesterfield and Ariwash.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said that the 9 million inhabitants of the British capital will no longer be able to meet their friends and families in closed places.

For his part, Minister of Health Matt Hancock said, "To everyone who works in our great capital, I would like to say thank you for what you did to reduce the virus in the beginning, and we must all now play our role in controlling the virus again."

"I know what this means in terms of sacrifices, but I know that if we work together, we will be able to overcome it," he added.

Fifth cause of death

On the other hand, the director of the European branch of the World Health Organization, Hans Kluge, confirmed that the number of daily HIV infections in Europe is increasing, as is the number of people entering hospitals.

He said that the Covid-19 disease caused by the virus is now the fifth leading cause of death in Europe, and the number of daily deaths has crossed the threshold of 1,000.

The World Health Organization warns that the death rates may become "4 to 5 times higher than they were in April by next January" if the restrictions imposed to confront the epidemic are eased.

For her part, European Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides called on member states to "do what is necessary" to avoid "total lockdown".

She expressed her deep concern about "the rapid and increasing rise in infection rates throughout the European Union."

Meanwhile, the repercussions of the crisis continue to affect the political arena and decision centers in many countries.

In Brussels, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen left the European Union summit Thursday, less than an hour after its start, because she had contact with a person who had tested positive for COVID-19.

She said on Twitter, "I just learned that a member of my office had tested positive for COVID-19 this morning ... the results of negative tests came, but as a precaution, I will leave the European Council immediately to go into self-isolation."

In France, at dawn on Thursday, the police searched the homes of former Prime Minister Edward Philippe and the current and former Minister of Health, as part of investigations into the government's handling of the Corona crisis, and doctors, prison staff and police officers had filed an unprecedented case related to the special shortage of masks and other medical materials.

Developments in America

In the United States, Democratic candidate for US Vice President Kamala Harris suspended her activities and movements until Monday, due to the discovery of injuries on her campaign team.

On the other hand, US President Donald Trump refused to return his country to shutting down its economy again in the event of a new wave of the pandemic.

"We will not do any shutdown of the economy, and we have learned a lot about this disease that young people are cured of, as happened with my son Barron," Trump said in a telephone interview with Fox Business.
