Engineers, known as pioneers on the battlefield, must not only have a strong psychological quality, but also a steel-like will, and they must "endure hardships and be savage."

In Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, there is a family of three generations of engineers.

They have dedicated themselves to national defense and army building, and they have been shining in different eras. Three generations have won 1 first-class merit and 4 second-class merits. They have also won honors such as learning and becoming a model for the whole army.

They are the post-30s who are responsible for Zongli, the post-60s for Xudong, and the post-90s for Tairan.

Three generations of grandparents take responsibility

In 1957, 19-year-old Guan Zongli came to Benxi with the belief in defending his family and the country and became an engineer.

He moved with the troops to the White Mountains and Black Waters, opening roads every mountain and building bridges when encountering water.

Due to the busy work of Guan Zongli and his wife, his son Guan Xudong was fostered at a friend's house after he was born.

Guan Xudong didn't return to his parents until he was in kindergarten.

Every winter and summer vacation, Guan Xudong would follow his father to dig tunnels, erect wire fences, and carry concrete pillars on the army construction sites.

In a blink of an eye, Guan Xudong reached the age of service.

Encouraged by his father, Guan Xudong came to an engineer unit, the predecessor of the "Lei Feng Regiment", and became the second generation of engineer in his family.

After joining the army, Guan Xudong used his spare time to learn cultural knowledge and was admitted to the former Dalian Army Academy.

After graduating, he worked in a military area organization. Because of his outstanding performance, he was selected to study at the National Defense University.

However, Guan Xudong, who returned from further studies, gave up the opportunity to develop military area agencies and resolutely asked for a certain engineering regiment.

In July 2010, a catastrophic flood occurred in Yongji County, Jilin City, Jilin Province. Guan Xudong led his troops to the front line.

After rescuing two drowned soldiers and three people, Guan Xudong was swept away by the flood. Fortunately, he was stopped by a big tree before he recovered his life.

In 2011, Guan Xudong’s son, Guan Tairan, was assigned to an industrial and chemical battalion and became the third-generation engineer of the old housekeeper.

Relatives and friends are very puzzled about this. It is not enough for two generations to devote their lives to national defense. Why should the third generation also get involved?

But Guan Zongli said: "Can I not know the suffering and risks of the engineering troops? But the engineers who are desperate are not only left to others, our family members should continue to come!"

In September 2014, Guan Tairan's regiment was ordered to form a peacekeeping team and went to Mali, West Africa to perform peacekeeping missions.

In the 8 months in a foreign country, in the face of wars, Ebola, malaria and other infectious diseases, as well as severe weather conditions, Guan Tairan and 33 peacekeeping comrades marched into the desert hinterland controlled by militants three times and successfully dealt with small arms. There were more than 50 surprise attacks and mortar attacks by the personnel, which successfully completed a number of engineering tasks.

Teach the red gene from generation to generation

Guan Zongli's life experience is a living teaching material for revolutionary traditional education.

When in the army, he participated in a memorial service for Comrade Lei Feng and became an advanced member of Lei Feng.

Later, he was transferred to the former Shenyang Military Region Engineering Corps Political Department as a publicity officer, and he wrote and reported on the advanced deeds of Lei Feng's class.

After Guan Xudong went to school, he changed schools many times with his father's work unit.

No matter where he goes, he will go to the army for training every winter and summer vacation.

Until he also put on his military uniform and became a member of the "Lei Feng Regiment", Guan Xudong formally fought on the front line, participating in the construction of the command post, blasting, bridge erection, and mine-laying.

Although Guan Tairan failed to become a member of Lei Feng's army, Guan Xudong always used Lei Feng's spirit to educate his children.

Taking advantage of Guan Tairan's time off at home, Guan Xudong took him to the Lei Feng Memorial Hall in Fushun for education and told about Lei Feng's spirit.

In his second year as a soldier, Guan Tairan applied for the military academy and failed.

Guan Xudong rushed to the army and did not speak the truth, but took his son to the grave of the old comrade Guan Xizhi.

When he was a child, Guan Tairan often played with Guan Xizhi, and knew his deeds more clearly.

That year, in the battle against floods in Yongji County, Guan Xudong recovered his life, but his comrade-in-arms and regiment chief of staff Guan Xizhi gave his life.

At that time, a heavy rain broke down a chemical raw material factory, and thousands of chemical raw material barrels rolled into the river along the flood. If there is a leakage, the consequences will be disastrous.

When Guan Xizhi was in danger, he led officers and soldiers to Fengman Reservoir to erect a pontoon bridge to intercept and salvage.

Due to the rush of water, the pontoon bridge was broken by the flood, and the motorboat they took was sucked down the current towards the dam gate.

At a critical juncture, Guan Xizhi ordered a dive.

In the turbulent water, Guan Xizhi pushed his comrades around him out, unfortunately, he was swallowed by the flood.

In front of Guan Xizhi's tomb, Guan Xudong gently stroked the tombstone and said, "Xizhi, Tairan is now a soldier, and we have a successor." The following year, Guan Tairan chose to serve as a non-commissioned officer and continued to serve.

Pass on the fire and charge again on a new starting point

The thick stacks of meritorious award certificates and medals describe the dedication of three generations of engineers to the cause of national defense.

But the housekeeper did not regard honors as capital for showing off and enjoyment, but as a new starting point.

According to the organization arrangement, Guan Xudong, a veteran engineer who has been charging forward, relentlessly bid farewell to the front line. He was successively transferred from a political commissar of an engineer regiment to Minister of the People's Armed Forces and Director of the Retirement Office. He has always maintained his motivation and standards.

Last year, Guan Xudong honorably retired.

Due to his outstanding performance in the peacekeeping mission in Mali, Guan Tairan was awarded second-class merit.

After returning to China, each peacekeeping team member can take one month's family leave.

Guan Tairan, like everyone else, has long since returned.

However, he organized and arranged for him to give a report to his brother troops. Guan Tairan did not say anything. He accepted this glorious task, and fondly told his comrades about the ups and downs and the trials of life and death of Chinese peacekeepers and soldiers, and vigorously promoted the supremacy of the motherland and the boundless love of China. spirit.

At the end of the report, Guan Tairan thought that he could finally go home, but the leader said to him: “The recruits squad leader will start training immediately. The organization hopes that you will lead the training of recruits. Based on your own experience in peacekeeping, you will educate recruits to be number one in the military. Step." Guan Tairan resolutely gave up his vacation and became the recruit squad leader.

Guan Tairan, who stood out from the contemporaneous army, was successfully promoted and walked into the gate of the Army Engineering University. He earned a first-class merit and a second-class merit. He was commended as a model for learning and becoming talented in the whole army and won the gold medal of Lei Feng from the former Shenyang Military Region. medal.

Today, Guan Tairan has become the acting instructor of a certain engineer's chemical defense brigade and bridge company, and continues to write the relay legend of three generations of engineer.
