Will the curfew announced by Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday meet some resistance from the population?

For the secretary general of the Union of National Police Commissioners (SCPN), David Le Bars, clear terms must be drawn up by the government to avoid any tension.

INTERVIEW

Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday the establishment of a curfew in nine French metropolises, a flagship measure of the country's strategy to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the ability of the police to enforce a traffic ban after 9 p.m. raises questions.

At the microphone of Europe 1, the secretary general of the Union of National Police Commissioners (SCPN), David Le Bars, said he was confident about its proper application while denouncing the lack of cooperation of a minority of the population.

"There is a problem of adherence to the sanction, or what is taken as such, and maybe people will transgress," he says.

"A few pockets of resistance"

"In the great majority, the French behaved well during the confinement", affirms the commissioner, moderating immediately: "There were some pockets of resistance and it is also often where we also had our pockets habitual delinquency. We will adapt to these territories. "

The lack of staff or the necessary reorganization of night work does not seem to worry David Le Bars.

Conversely, its main concern relates to the clarity of the rules in force.

"It was one of the subjects of the confinement: there are too many exemptions. This makes control complicated, it creates conflict between the population and the police [...] Our goal is to apply the law and settlement in the simplest way possible. "

Praising the courage of the population, "victim of deprivation of liberty", David Le Bars now calls for the goodwill of everyone to make this ordeal more bearable.
