In Spain, currently considered the European country most affected by the second wave of Covid-19, the Catalan authorities have announced measures to limit mobility and social interaction.
Closure of bars and restaurants, restriction of frequentation of shops, trade fairs, congresses and conventions suspended.
These measures will come into force overnight from Thursday to Friday for a period of 15 days.
In the Czech Republic, the country with the highest infection rate in Europe, the authorities have decided to close schools and introduce distance education.
In the Netherlands, bars and restaurants
have been closed since Tuesday as part of partial containment.
Northern Ireland has also announced the closure of restaurants.
Germany introduces new measures
Germany, so far often hailed for its good management of the epidemic, will also introduce new, more restrictive measures to try to fight against a resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic, Chancellor Angela announced on Wednesday evening. Merkel after a meeting with the leaders of the 16 regional states.
The number of participants in private events will for example be limited to 15 in regions recording more than 35 new contaminations per 100,000 inhabitants over seven days.
In these areas, masks will be mandatory wherever people are close to each other for a period of time.
If the figure of 50 new contaminations per 100,000 inhabitants is crossed, even more draconian rules will be imposed, such as the limitation of private meetings to ten people from two households maximum and the closing of restaurants at 11 pm.
In Portugal, a relatively unspoiled country so far, the government wants to legislate to make it compulsory to wear a mask and download a mobile contact tracing application.
And it's not just Europe that is taking new measures.
Five of Iran's largest cities, for example, will be partially cordoned off for the next three days.
In El Salvador, the city of Chalchuapa will also be confined.
Restrictive measures which are therefore increasing in the face of the resurgence of the virus, like
those announced in France
by President Emmanuel Macron.
