14 October 2020 Across Europe, over 700 thousand new infections have been registered in the last week, announced the WHO, the highest weekly increase since the beginning of the pandemic. Over half of the new cases in the region have been recorded in the UK, France, Russia and Spain. 



The

United Kingdom

recorded 19,724 cases of coronavirus positivity in 24 hours - a new daily record - with an increase of almost 2,500 units (+ 14%) compared to yesterday, when there were 17,234 more infections. The Guardian writes it. There were 137 dead, just under yesterday's record 143, the highest since the beginning of June. The deaths from Covid-19 therefore rose to 43,155.



A shower of criticism falls on the government of

Germany

: for the first time in 6 months, the Robert Koch Institute reported more than 5,000 confirmed cases this morning. In the last 24 hours, more precisely, 5,132 new infections were recorded, while the day before there were 4,122. Since the start of the pandemic, 334,585 people have become infected in Germany. The number of victims has also increased, from the previous 13 to 40. In all, deaths from Covid in Germany have so far been 9,677.



The German Chancellor,

, looks "with great concern" at the data and believes that both a lockdown and an overload of health facilities should be avoided. Meanwhile, at the European level, it is pushing for coordination on travel restrictions. The EU Council has adopted a recommendation for "a coordinated approach to restricting freedom of movement in response to the Covid-19 pandemic."  the second autumn wave continues inexorably. There are now almost 800 thousand total infections and in recent weeks there has been a very strong increase in daily infections, always over ten thousand, with peaks above twenty thousand. Above all, however, this increase in positivity diagnoses was accompanied by a worrying increase in hospitalizations and occupations of intensive care beds.



After more than 7 thousand infections in 24 hours, the

decided to close bars and restaurants from today and for at least four weeks to avoid hospital overcrowding, while l ax schools with the obligation to mask open: "Education is too important," says Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Northern Ireland

, Prime Minister Arlene Foster has announced new restrictions to deal with the spread of the coronavirus. The schools will close for two weeks, until November 2nd; pubs and restaurants will close for a month, with the exception of the take away service, which is allowed until 11pm. The measures will start on Friday and include, according to the Guardian, the limit of 10 people at meetings, the stop to indoor amateur sports, the limit of 25 participants at weddings (from 19 October) and at funerals; unnecessary travel is also not recommended.

has decided to close all bars and restaurants in the region for 15 days in an attempt to stop the new wave of coronavirus.
