Today, Tuesday, the United Nations General Assembly held a session to honor the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Representatives of member states of the international organization observed a minute of silence to mourn the soul of the deceased.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his sincere condolences to the Kuwaiti people, and said that Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad was, throughout his reign, appreciated and respected for his distinguished leadership and commitment to peacemaking.

Guterres praised the vital role the late Prince played in mediating crises, facilitating dialogue and mobilizing the international community for humanitarian solidarity work.

Guterres also stressed that the United Nations will continue to support Kuwaiti mediation efforts, and its role in promoting peace and stability.

In today's plenary meeting, we paid tribute to the memory of the late Amir of the State of #Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Under his leadership, Kuwait grew to be a symbol of peace and cooperation.

The United Nations called Sheikh Sabah a "humanitarian leader" on the ninth of September 2014, and during his reign Kuwait was called a "center for humanitarian work" in recognition of the aid and charitable work it provided to all parts of the world.

The former Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon said at the time, "Kuwait has shown exceptional generosity under the leadership of its Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, and despite its small size, the heart of this country was greater than crises, poverty and epidemics."

Sheikh Sabah died on the 29th of last September at the age of 91.
