Current Affairs News Eyes丨The first stop of his trip to Guangdong, why did Xi Jinping visit the city of eastern Guangdong

On October 12, General Secretary Xi Jinping went to Guangdong for inspection.

This is his 12th domestic inspection since this year, and also the third inspection of Guangdong since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

"Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone" is the key itinerary this time.

On the first day of the Guangdong trip, the general secretary first visited Chaozhou, a famous national historical and cultural city in eastern Guangdong.

One Bridge, One Floor, One Street: Taste the Trend in History

The name Chaozhou began in the eleventh year of Emperor Kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty (591), and it took the meaning of "in the continent of Chaozhou, the tide goes back and forth".

Chaozhou is the birthplace of "Tide Culture".

Among the 135 historical and cultural cities in the country, Chaozhou is on the list.

△Tang Dynasty writer Han Yu was demoted to Chaozhou as an official for eight months, to promote the advantages and eliminate the disadvantages, and care about the people's livelihood.

To commemorate him, the trendy people changed the names of the local mountains and rivers to Hanshan and Hanjiang.

In the afternoon, Xi Jinping inspected Guangji Bridge, Guangji Tower, and Paifang Street in Chaozhou City, focusing on the restoration and protection of cultural relics, the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage, and the development of cultural tourism resources.

The Guangji Bridge was built in 1171, spanning the east and west banks of the Han River, with a total length of 518 meters.

This bridge has a unique style of "combination of beam bridge, pontoon bridge and arch bridge", and is hailed as "the world's earliest open-close bridge" by bridge expert Mao Yi.

There are 12 and 8 piers on the east and west sides of Guangji Bridge, and 18 wooden boats are connected to form a floating bridge in the middle.

During normal navigation, the wooden boat is closed, pedestrians pass by the bridge, and passing ships pass between the piers on both sides.

When flooding occurs during the flood season, the wooden boat is untied, which not only facilitates the passage of ships, but also facilitates drainage into the sea. This is the function of the opening and closing type.

△In ancient times, Guangji Bridge was an important hub for cargo distribution and transshipment. As there were many shops on the bridge, it was very lively, and there was a good story of "one mile and long bridge and one city".

Guangji Building is located on the west side of Guangji Bridge. It is a palace-like building. It was built in 1370 and has always been the main gateway for Chaozhou city defense and transportation.

Due to disrepair, Guangji Building was once dilapidated.

In September 2002, the Chaozhou Municipal Government initiated the restoration project, which was completed in January 2004.

Passing through Guangji Tower, you will enter another cultural landmark of Chaozhou-Paifang Street.

There are 23 ancient archways on the street. Each archway has one or more owners, all of whom are the elites of the ancient influx of people.

Paifang Street is located on the central axis of the cultural and tourist characteristic area of the ancient city. There are dozens of intangible cultural pavilions gathered to display intangible cultural heritage such as tide embroidery, wood carving and ceramics.

In 2011, Paifang Street Yixingjia Lane became the first national historical and cultural street in Guangdong Province.

"Embroidery" Kung Fu: Let the city leave memories

As an ancient cultural city with a history of more than 1,600 years, Chaozhou has more than 1,300 cultural relics and attractions. The bridge, the first floor, and the street that the general secretary saw that day are typical representatives.

History and culture are the soul of a city.

Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized that we must

inherit the historical context

in the spirit of being responsible to history and the people

.

In October 2018, when Xi Jinping inspected Yongqingfang in the Xiguan historical and cultural district in Guangzhou, he said that urban planning and construction should attach great importance to historical and cultural protection, and do not rush for quick success and short-term profit, and do not demolish and build.

At that time, he proposed that more use of the "embroidery" kung fu of micro-reconstruction, focusing on the inheritance and continuity of civilization, let the city leave memories and let people remember homesickness.

In recent years, Chaozhou has promoted the conservation and repair work of ancient city cultural relics, street lanes, and celebrities’ former residences through “embroidery” efforts. In accordance with the principle of repairing the old, it has implemented micro-reconstruction and micro-renewal projects in 5 historical and cultural blocks and 5 theme blocks. .

In the past Mid-Autumn National Day holiday, Chaozhou received nearly 2 million tourists, with a total income of about 890 million yuan. The local ancient city cultural and tourist characteristic area is the most popular tourist destination.

The inheritance and protection of history and culture is the focus of Xi Jinping's inspection of Chaozhou, and this is also an area that he has repeatedly emphasized during his domestic inspections this year.

In May of this year, the General Secretary said during an inspection tour of Yungang Grottoes in Shanxi that the development of tourism must be based on protection and not excessive commercialization, so that tourism can become a process for people to perceive Chinese culture and enhance cultural confidence.

In August of this year, he presided over a symposium on solidly advancing the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta in Hefei and said that all major demolitions and major constructions should not be done, and the historical, cultural and urban features must be protected to avoid "one thousand cities and one face"

The profound meaning of the general secretary's trip to Guangdong

Guangdong is the vanguard, pioneer, and experimental area of China's reform and opening up. It is also a province that General Secretary Xi Jinping earnestly hopes to be at the forefront of the country in terms of building systems and mechanisms for promoting high-quality economic development.

On October 12, during the investigation in Chaozhou, Xi Jinping also went to Chaozhou Sanhuan (Group) Co., Ltd. to learn about the company's independent innovation and production and operation.

△Chaozhou Sanhuan Company was rated as a national high-tech enterprise, and has been ranked among the top ten of China's top 100 electronic components for many years.

In addition to famous historical and cultural cities, Chaozhou also has many business cards such as "Hometown of Overseas Chinese", "Chinese Porcelain Capital", and "Chinese Arts and Crafts Capital".

This is currently the world's largest daily-use porcelain production and export base and the country's largest wedding dress production gathering place.

As an important node on the Maritime Silk Road since ancient times, Chaozhou is accelerating the creation of a characteristic boutique city on the coastal economic belt.

Chaozhou is the first stop of General Secretary Xi Jinping's trip to Guangdong.

According to the news released that day, two days later, on the morning of October 14, the general secretary will attend the 40th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and deliver an important speech.

During the three trips to Guangdong by the General Secretary, they all chose unusual nodes, and they all released unusual messages.

△Time Square at the foot of Danan Mountain in Shenzhen

In December 2012, Xi Jinping came to Guangdong for the first time after the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on an investigation outside Beijing. The first stop was Shenzhen.

The general secretary made the judgment that "my country's reform has entered a critical period and deep water zone", and emphasized that "reform will not stop and opening up will not stop."

In October 2018, the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, the general secretary came to Guangdong again.

In Shenzhen, he solemnly declared: "China's reform and opening up will never stop! The next 40 years of China will surely have new achievements that will make the world admire!"

In October 2020, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the general secretary went to Guangdong for the third time.

China will certainly hold high the banner of reform and opening up in the new era, continue to make good use of the key strategy of reform and opening up, and take advantage of the trend to start a new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist country.
