October 12, 2020 "Many national governments have introduced travel restrictions in recent months. This has led to a patchwork of measures. Across the EU, we have different color codes, different criteria and different rules on testing and quarantine. It's hard to know where you can travel, which rules to follow when you arrive and which ones apply when you return home. We need to coordinate these measures, to make life easier for Europeans. The clearer the rules, the better citizens can deal with them. which is why the European Commission made a proposal long ago. Its adoption by national governments will bring clarity. "

This was announced by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

"Our proposal - he said - will bring a common color code, based on common criteria. It will define all the regions of the European Union according to the level of risk. Red, orange, green: these colors will be reflected on a single map for across the EU, "he added.

"Everyone can check online, on our

- explained Von der Leyen - There will be no restrictions if you travel from a 'green' region. When you travel from an 'orange' or 'red' region, national governments may ask you to get tested or undergo quarantine. Governments will provide clear and timely information before introducing such measures. "

"Travelers who move for essential reasons, such as transport workers, or those who travel for important family reasons, will not be required to undergo quarantine. This new system will make things easier for citizens," he concluded.
