The Ministry of Interior warned against ignoring the preventive and safety measures during the flow of valleys in the rainy season, and also warned about the dangers of lightning strikes, due to the severe accidents they cause, calling for following the conditions and instructions issued by the competent authorities in the country, during the weather fluctuations.
Finally, the Ministry’s General Command of Civil Defense, in cooperation with the Security Media Department in the General Administration for Security Support, launched the fourth quarterly campaign “Your Protection is Our Responsibility” with the aim of promoting preventive culture and helping to know how to deal with fires, in addition to enhancing safety measures at gas stations during Winter season, including the dangers of lightning strikes, which come within the competencies of civil defense in terms of fire prevention requirements, and the provision of safety and general prevention supplies, as part of the main awareness plan for this year.
The Commander-in-Chief of Civil Defense, Major General Jassem Muhammad Al-Marzouqi, said that "protecting you is our responsibility" is the fourth main community awareness campaign that is launched during the current year, and its activities continue from the beginning of next November until the end of the year, and under it are two sub-initiatives, namely, the culture of dealing with Fire and Safety in Winter.
He added that the sub-initiatives include awareness of safety in petroleum stations, awareness of the communities residing in the country, safety and prevention conditions in tents, safety conditions and prevention of the dangers of heaters, and definition of the procedures that must be followed by land-goers to maintain their safety, in addition to introducing the protection and safety requirements during the flow of valleys In the rainy season the hazards of lightning and thunder.
He explained that the campaign aims to enhance the quality of life in the UAE community, preserving lives and property, and then intensify prevention and public safety efforts to face risks and challenges, and reduce fire rates nationwide, in addition to strengthening and spreading preventive awareness among community members to preserve their safety and the safety of their properties. And directing them to the necessity of adhering to the requirements of prevention and public safety and the exceptional and preventive measures when taken.
He stressed that the General Command of Civil Defense is working, in cooperation and coordination with the regional civil defense departments, to achieve the strategic direction of the UAE government and the Ministry of Interior, to consolidate the country’s position as one of the best countries in the world in terms of security and safety, by building on positive results and setting comprehensive development plans. And the launch of awareness programs to enhance the preventive culture of community members through visual, audio, and print media, and social media, to maximize the benefits and reach of all segments of society.
Police departments advised people in the event of a thunderstorm to enter the nearest building, and avoid standing or sitting under trees or in open spaces, in addition to the need to install lightning arresters on the roofs of buildings and cars, and to avoid standing near telephone poles or electric power when using the phone, and not to stand. In an elevated area, stay away from metal and iron as barbed wire.
