The
Barcelona City Council
has denounced that unknown persons have mutilated the arms of the monument to the sardana in
Montjuïc
, in an attack similar to the one that this sculpture already suffered in 2014.
In a message on his Twitter account, the Deputy Mayor for City Council Security,
Albert Batlle
, has denounced the attack against this sculpture, which reproduces several people dancing a sardana, although some of them now present their mutilated arms.
"We condemn the savagery and appeal to fight for coexistence and against incivism," said Batlle.
The monument to the sardana is a work made by the draftsman and writer
Josep Cañas
that is located on the road to the castle of Montjuïc, with a diameter of four meters and eight figures of about two meters high, carved in limestone from
Ulldecona
(Tarragona).
In the center of the sculpture, the author placed a stone from the mountain of
Montserrat
to symbolize the belongings, such as bags, that Sardanists usually leave while dancing this traditional Catalan dance.
