The stories of anonymous letters, in the Vosges, always have a particular resonance.

All the more so when this is happening in a small town located just ten kilometers from Lépanges-sur-Vologne, the epicenter of the “little Grégory” affair and which has traumatized the valley for twenty-six years.

Although this time, obviously, it has nothing to do with this case.

The inhabitants of the village of Fontenay lodged a complaint after receiving anonymous letters.

The alleged author of these letters has been identified.

He is the husband of the former mayor of the village.

The individual would have been confused by his handwriting: he had written the addresses on the envelopes by hand, according to a source close to the file.

"The witch who loves you all"

Three waves of letters were sent before and after the first round of municipal elections as well as at the end of April.

At the beginning, they did not target anyone by name but some mentioned "the first three letters" of the first names of children in the village, explains Jérôme Poifoulot, mayor since June of this town of 500 people, himself a recipient of letters.

A total of 18 people, including several from his electoral list, received them, he said.

The first wave of letters, signed "The witch who loves you all", speaks of children as "little idiots" or "consanguineous", according to extracts unveiled by

.

The letter also praises the municipal action of the outgoing mayor, who did not represent himself.

The suspect admitted the facts

Placed in custody on Saturday at the Bruyères gendarmerie, the man admitted the facts.

For his lawyer, Me Alain Bégel, these missives mix “electoral tract” and “love letter” to the glory of his wife.

They were written "in a particular context", marked by the Covid and incivility in the village and at his client's, whose car tires had been punctured.

"He was exhausted, tired and worried," insists Me Bégel, who rejects any criminal offense.

"The facts constitute many offenses", considers on the contrary Me Gérard Welzer, the plaintiff's lawyer.

"We will take a decision in the course of the next week" to possibly initiate proceedings for "threats and harassment", indicated the public prosecutor of Epinal, Nicolas Heitz.
