She is the first woman to have held the post of
Minister of Finance
in her country, and she has done so twice.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala also worked for 25 years at the World Bank.
She therefore has an international career, and skills praised in Nigeria.
"Excellent qualifications"
The Minister of Industry and Trade notably praised
the candidate's "
excellent qualifications
", which will perhaps allow her to "
revive the spirit of trade liberalization
" within an organization facing numerous challenges.
Last candidate running alongside Korean Yoo Myung-hee, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala immediately thanked Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for his support, as well as his friends in Nigeria and around the world.
The Nigerian candidate highlights her experience "
at the crossroads of trade and public health
", since she notably piloted until recently one of the WHO programs in the fight against Covid-19.
Many Nigerians have expressed their support for his candidacy on social media.
In any case, the task will be difficult for the future director of the WTO in the face of the global economic crisis and the crisis of confidence in the organization.
