The PS deputy for Mayenne and former Minister Delegate for Agri-Food Guillaume Garot was appointed Friday head of the Socialist list for the regional elections of March 2021 in Pays-de-la-Loire.

"The only candidate, Guillaume Garot gathered 884 votes, or 98.3% of the votes cast, with a participation of nearly 34%," said the PS in a press release.

"This mobilization gives me strength and momentum to build the gathering of the left and environmentalists, essential to win against the regional right," said Guillaume Garot, 54, quoted in a statement.

"The challenge is to unite us now, while respecting our diversity, around a socially just, ecologically responsible and concretely applicable project", he added.

The region on the right since 2015

The Pays de la Loire region, chaired by the socialist Jacques Auxiette from 2004 to 2015, was won by Bruno Retailleau (LR) in the last elections.

The president of the LR group in the Senate has since given way to Christelle Mor Anglais (LR).

At the same time, members of the parties Europe Ecologie Les Verts (EELV), Generation.

S and Génération Ecologie, and with as figurehead the deputy Matthieu Orphelin (ex-LREM, president of the Ecology, Democracy, Solidarity group) launched on Friday an appeal “for an ecological, citizen and united Pays de la Loire region”.

This call aims to "bring together the environmental and left forces to win the regional election of 2021 (...)", we read in a press release.
