The Spanish government declares Madrid a state of emergency to contain the epidemic

  Spain held a special cabinet meeting on the same day. After the meeting, Minister of Health Ilia and Minister of the Interior Marasca held a joint press conference in the Prime Minister's Office.

Ilya said that the implementation of the state of emergency is to allow the central government to legally implement measures to restrict the movement of people. The government's responsibility is to slow the spread of the new crown virus, "even if it means sacrifices."

  According to this decree, the capital Madrid and the 9 municipalities in the Madrid Autonomous Region will return to isolation, and entry and exit of the blocked municipalities are prohibited except for legitimate reasons such as work, study, and medical treatment.

Activities in the blocked area will not be affected temporarily.

The government will use 7,000 police officers to control the entrances and exits of the blocked towns, and offenders will face fines and other penalties.

  According to data released by the Spanish Ministry of Health on the 9th, as of 14:00 that day, the country had newly confirmed 5,986 cases, with a total of more than 861,000 confirmed cases and a total of 32,929 deaths.

Among them, the Madrid Autonomous Region has newly confirmed 2,256 cases, with a total of nearly 262,000 confirmed cases and a total of 9,739 deaths.

  Spain declared a state of emergency on March 14 and implemented measures to "close the city" nationwide.
