Retired superstar Michael Jordan and NBA boss Adam Silver are among eight named Friday to the board of directors of the NBA Foundation dedicated to racial equality and social justice.

Created in August with the help of the players' union (NBPA) and the contribution of up to $ 300 million over ten years from franchise owners, this charitable foundation must work in particular for the economic development of the black community in North America. North.

Besides Silver and Jordan, owner of the Charlotte Hornets, the other six members are Sacramento Kings player Harrison Barnes, Philadelphia Sixers Tobias Harris, New Orleans Pelicans owners, Gayle Benson, Atlanta Hawks, Tony Ressler, and Toronto Raptors, Larry Tanenbaum, as well as executive director of the players' union Michele Roberts.

This board of directors will determine a strategic direction for the granting of subsidies and will supervise the actions initiated, in direct collaboration with the 30 teams of the NBA.

Its objectives are to stimulate the economic development of black communities by promoting jobs, career advancement and access to education in cities where NBA clubs reside.

As such, the league and the players' union are committed to enabling greater inclusion of blacks in the NBA environment, by collaborating or seeking the services of more companies owned and managed by this community.

The NBA Foundation is the result of the authority's desire to be proactive in the fight against racial injustice, during a season during which players and coaches have continued to support Black Lives Matter.
