Imam Gaillon was sentenced to immediate appearance for downloading and viewing child pornography photos and videos, this Thursday, at the court of Évreux (Eure).

The religious was sentenced to six months in prison.

His name has been entered in the file of perpetrators of sexual offenses.

He will have to leave the national territory.

He was arrested on Tuesday during the dismantling of a child pornography network

which took place in France between Monday 5 and Thursday 8 October.

He used the "Peer to Peer" network

According to

Paris Normandie,

the man is 50 years old.

Of Algerian origin, he would have arrived in France in April 2019. He would have downloaded more than 247 child pornography files with the “Peer to Peer” network.

At his home, investigators got hold of two cell phones, two hard drives and a camcorder.

Its downloads were all made between March 8 and 26.

“During confinement, out of curiosity, I downloaded these images.

I wanted to know why people hurt children.

And then it was stronger than me.

I could no longer restrain myself, ”he confided during the hearing according to the regional daily.

A national operation

During this vast crackdown, the police overwhelmingly arrested men.

They are between 28 and 75 years old and live in around thirty different departments.

Hundreds of thousands of files have been discovered.

Investigators seized more than a hundred external hard drives, a hundred phones and laptops, nearly 150 USB keys, DVDs and CDs.
