The Dubai Health Authority, represented by the Public Health Protection Department, organized a virtual seminar yesterday targeting various groups of the local community, with the aim of enhancing community awareness to prevent seasonal influenza, and stressed the importance of obtaining the vaccine, to avoid negative complications of the disease, especially for the most vulnerable groups.

The virtual symposium, in which the following: Head of the Health Promotion and Education Department, Dr. Hind Al-Awadhi, and the first public health specialist at the authority, Dr. Nusseibeh Al-Hanadi, witnessed a great turnout and interaction from members of the local community, and the symposium confirmed the great care taken by the authority to protect society from diseases Various, including seasonal influenza, whose symptoms are similar to "Covid-19".

The symposium, in its responses to the audience's questions, stated that the elderly, over the age of 65, pregnant women, and children under five, are most at risk of developing complications from influenza.

The symposium focused on the symptoms associated with seasonal influenza, such as: sneezing, runny nose, and sore throat, in addition to occasional fever, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea in children, indicating that influenza viruses are transmitted from one person to another through airborne droplets, when they cough The injured person, sneezes or talks

She stressed the importance of avoiding crowded places, wearing masks and physical distancing, to avoid catching infection from others, with the need to adhere to the etiquette of sneezing, coughing and washing hands continuously for a period of at least 20 seconds.

The symposium noted the authority’s keenness to strengthen the preventive aspect, and raise community awareness of the need to obtain the influenza vaccine, to avoid complications from the disease, noting the availability of the vaccine quantities in the various primary health care centers of the authority, where the vaccine can be taken at a prior appointment from the unified call center at 800342. Or go directly without a prior appointment to one of the medical fitness centers, namely: Smart Salem Center in City Walk, Uptown Mirdif Center, and JLT Center, from seven in the morning until seven thirty in the evening, from Sunday to Thursday.
