The Marseille public prosecutor's office appealed against the placement under judicial supervision of the former sports director and former OM coach José Anigo, indicted for criminal conspiracy with a view to extortion in an organized gang and with a view to committing an organized gang crime, he announced Thursday.

"The Marseille prosecutor's office has appealed against the decision of the judge of freedoms and detention placing him under judicial control," wrote the prosecutor Thursday evening in a statement about the current recruiter from Nottingham Forest (English L2).

A week ago the prosecution announced the dismantling of "a team of criminals engaging in various criminal activities and belonging to Marseille banditry", a team suspected in particular of "money laundering and extortion to the detriment of night establishments and in the world of football ".

Seventeen people in total were indicted in this case by the investigating magistrate of the specialized interregional jurisdiction: among them twelve were placed in pre-trial detention and five left free under judicial supervision, including Mr. Anigo, said the prosecution on Thursday. .

During the indictment of Mr. Anigo on Sunday, his lawyer Me Emmanuel Molina told AFP that "the legal debate was far from over since it remains presumed innocent and that the investigations and appeals which remain to be carried out will demonstrate that this procedure is questionable on both form and substance ".

According to Provence, Michel Campanella, often presented as a figure of Marseille banditry, already detained, and the Marseille player agent Jean-Luc Barresi, were among those placed in jail.

Olympique de Marseille has announced its intention to become a civil party in this case, of which the club could be a victim.

Already indicted in early 2019 for "abuse of corporate assets, complicity and criminal associations", José Anigo had seen this measure lifted and had been heard as an "assisted witness".
