It was at the beginning of June that the man, with a fellow passenger in the car, drove on highway 520 in Markaryd municipality.

On seven occasions, the man accelerated with his car and steered towards the cars passing in the opposite direction.

The first six times a collision could be avoided by the drivers in the other cars being able to give way, and by the man's fellow passengers pulling the steering wheel.

The seventh time, the man drove into the back door of the other car, which caused the man's car to then overturn in the ditch.

After the crash, the man behaved aggressively towards both other road users and the police.

Sentenced to forensic psychiatric care

On Thursday, the man was sentenced to forensic psychiatric care, after Växjö District Court ruled that he drove into the wrong lane with the intention of colliding with the traffic in the opposite direction.

According to the forensic psychiatric investigation, the man suffered from a serious mental disorder at the time of the crime, which is why he is sentenced to forensic psychiatric care.

Initially, the man was also suspected of drug driving, but these suspicions have been dismissed.

The man has already been detained and will continue to be detained until the verdict becomes final.

The man himself has said that he can neither admit nor deny the acts, according to the district court's ruling.
