Presidential 2022: Baroin's renunciation rekindles divisions within Republicans

It is pitching among the Republicans.
After François Baroin refused to be the right-wing candidate in 2022, tensions within the right have come to light again.
And especially this Thursday during the back-to-school seminar for parliamentarians.
It was the first time that right-wing MEPs, deputies and senators had met in the same room for almost 10 years.

The first to open hostilities is the MEP François-Xavier Bellamy: "
I am quite distressed to see that our political family has been engaged for a few weeks in a kind of trench warfare through small confidential, small off, small we, as if we needed our journalist friends, whom we thank for being present, to talk to each other.
"
François-Xavier Bellamy is immediately followed by the leader of LR senators, the ambitious Bruno Retailleau: “
We must not give in to personal attacks.
And that is intolerable, and that is unacceptable.

In his viewfinder: elected officials annoyed by his presidential ambitions displayed including the young number 3 of the party Aurélien Pradié.

We are at a time when the French are suffering terribly.
This is not the time to explain that we are a presidential candidate, that we dream of being one, that we need a primary or not, let's be serene
”, comments- he does.
As justice of the peace, Gérard Larcher, the head of the Senate, closes the debates: “
Let us avoid formulas, hurtful words.
I don't teach anyone a lesson.
I just want us to meet up and respond to the French request.
"
To reduce tensions, Gérard Larcher undertakes to quickly prepare a tie-breaker project.
The objective is to nominate the candidate for the right in 2022 and avoid yet another fratricidal war.
