Nîmes: The former police officer sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his ex-partner -

The trial opened on Monday.

The sentence was handed down late this Thursday evening.

A former police officer, tried for having shot his ex-companion with three bullets in the head in front of their son in 2016 in Alès was sentenced to life imprisonment with 22 years of security by the Assize Court of Gard in Nîmes .

The Assize Court also ordered the total withdrawal of the parental authority of the ex-police officer, aged 39, over his son Mathis, now aged 7 and raised by his maternal aunt.

A complaint filed by his former partner

The man was accused of having shot three bullets in the head, with his service weapon, his former companion, who was at the wheel of his car, on a road in Alès.

The events took place under the eyes of their little boy, then 2 years old, who was installed during the events on a child seat, in the back of the vehicle.

The couple had been separated for several months.

The victim had filed a complaint, a few days before the tragedy, against the former police officer, in particular for malicious calls.

The man is accused of having called her nearly 1,700 times in the two months preceding her death, according to elements reported by investigators.

The man is also suspected of showing up at his former partner's home at any time, and of having followed her, including to her workplace, and of being particularly threatening if he discovered that she had a new companion.
