A fire broke out on the 7th local time in a shell storage in Ryazan, in central Russia, and a massive chain explosion occurred, causing a commotion in which more than 1,000 local residents were evacuated.

It is reported that two people were injured in the accident that day and were hospitalized at a local hospital.

According to the TAs Interfax news agency, on the afternoon of the afternoon of the 7th local time, a fire broke out in the ammunition storage of the military unit near the village of Zeltuhino in Ryazan, and the shells that were being stored exploded one after another.

The fire started in the grassy fields of the military base and carried to the nearby shell storage in a strong wind.

The fire brigade in the unit began to extinguish the fire, but failed to catch the fire, and all the soldiers evacuated.

Subsequently, the shells were burned in earnest, and the shells exploded almost every 10 seconds, causing the flames to spread even more intensely and thick smoke rose up into the sky.

The aftermath of the explosion and shell debris flew several kilometers from the point of the fire, destroying the walls and windows of houses in nearby villages.

As the situation worsened, the emergency department of the disaster authorities urgently evacuated 1,600 residents of 14 villages within a 5 km radius of the accident.

In addition, more than 100 firefighters from the Ministry of Emergency Management mobilized about 20 firefighting equipment to extinguish the fire, but the flames are not easily caught.

The Ministry of Emergency Management said at least two residents, one woman and one man, were injured and hospitalized due to fire and explosion.
