“On October 7, 2020, the elections of the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine took place.
By secret ballot, Academician Anatoly Glebovich Zagorodny was elected President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with a two-thirds vote, ”the NAS said.
According to TASS, Zagorodny served as Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Director and Head of the Department of Theory and Modeling of Plasma Processes at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
He also worked as the editor-in-chief of the "Ukrainian Physical Journal", and a professor at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev.
On August 19, at the age of 102, long-term president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Soviet and Ukrainian engineer, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, Boris Paton, died.
