5,883 people have currently died with covid-19 in Sweden.

The daily reported number remains low.

The same applies to the number of intensive care units.

A total of 23 iva patients are currently being cared for in the country.

At the same time, the spread of infection seems to be increasing in Europe, according to Anders Tegnell.

- We have a continued deterioration in several countries.

In Sweden, we have seen a similar development, but not as fast and drastic.

This week, the spread of infection does not seem to have accelerated again, he says.

Up in Stockholm

The increase has not affected the number of intensive care units or the number of deaths per week.

- Some regions stand out, for example Skåne which has more cases again.

Stockholm has had a clear increase in recent weeks and is now at quite high levels.

It is a real upswing that seems to be spread out in the community and not focused on a special place, says Anders Tegnell.

- Uppsala and Uppland have also been hit by an upswing.

Hockey teams are singled out

The Swedish Public Health Agency has investigated what may be behind the increase in the country and found four possible causes.

In Sweden, Finland and Norway, the infection is increasing among athletes.

Hockey teams stand out, but there is no indication that the people were infected out on the ice, but rather within the team, according to Anders Tegnell.

- We have a dialogue with the Swedish Sports Confederation about what caused hockey to be affected, he says.

Other areas where the infection increases are at student parties, workplaces and private parties.

- When you gather many people in cramped spaces, there are risks.

The outbreaks can lead to an increased spread in society.
