Forty-year-old French Riviera found dead, her companion in custody

The companion of a 40-year-old woman, found dead Sunday evening in Vence (Alpes-Maritimes), was taken into custody, said the Grasse prosecutor's office.

It was this 33-year-old man who called on the 17th, but when help arrived, his wife was dead.

The couple, who had been residing for a few months in this town located about twenty kilometers from Nice, were together irregularly.

Both suffered a priori from psychiatric disorders which have earned them, in the past, to be placed under guardianship, also said the prosecution.

And the man has no criminal record.

In 2019, 146 women were killed in France by their spouse or ex-companion, 25 more than the previous year, according to the latest official figures.

Since the start of the year, 53 women have lost their lives in the same conditions, not to mention this tragedy, the circumstances of which remain unclear for the moment.
