A hunter made a macabre discovery this Monday, at the end of the afternoon, in the maquis.

A decomposing body was found buried under the leaves on the heights of Centuri, in Haute-Corse.

"The state of the remains did not allow its identification, which will be established in the coming days by the scientific examinations that will be ordered," said in a statement Arnaud Viornery, the prosecutor of the Republic of Bastia, who went there on Monday evening.

"The circumstances of its discovery allow at this stage to privilege, subject to the conclusions of forensic experts, the criminal track", adds the prosecutor who specifies that an investigation for "intentional homicide" was opened and entrusted to the research section of the gendarmerie.

Missing 33-year-old man

Among the leads studied by the investigators is that of the disappearance of a 33-year-old man, night establishment manager, since September 9 in Tomino, a neighboring village of Centuri in Cap Corse.

On September 10, the young man's car was found by the side of the road in Meria, a small village a 15-minute drive from Tomino.

The ignition keys were still on the dashboard.

A judicial information in search of the causes of the disappearance had been opened in mid-September and entrusted to an examining magistrate, the Bastia prosecutor's office had then indicated.
