Officials said today that the foreign ministers of Israel and the UAE will meet in Germany on Tuesday, to discuss taking more steps towards the normalization of relations between the two countries.
A spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan will discuss a group of various files with the aim of strengthening relations.
Last month, Israel and the UAE signed an agreement in Washington to normalize ties and establish broader ties between the two countries.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas expressed his gratitude for choosing the Israeli and Emirati foreign ministers to hold their first meeting - which he described as historic - in Germany.
Maas described the peace agreement between Israel and the UAE as courageous, and said it has been good news in the Middle East for a long time.
He added that this agreement is an opportunity at the same time for a new movement in dialogue between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
Maas said Germany and Europe wanted to help in this regard, and he hoped to provide a good framework for discussing further steps along this path.
Tripartite summit
The Israeli website Walla said that a tripartite summit will be held between Ashkenazi, Bin Zayed and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas at the invitation of the latter.
He pointed out that Maas raised the idea of the summit during his meeting two weeks ago with the ambassadors of Israel and the UAE to his country, without referring to the summit agenda.
In addition to the summit, the foreign ministers of Israel and the UAE will meet separately to discuss the progress of communications on the various annexes of the peace agreement between the two countries, including in the fields of aviation, visas, diplomatic relations, investment, science, technology, water, agriculture, energy, and others, according to the same source.
