A serious road accident claimed the life of a 27-year-old man on Monday south of Rennes.

The drama took place at 7.45 am on the RN137 connecting Nantes to Rennes up to the town of Chartres-de-Bretagne (Ille-et-Vilaine).

According to the gendarmes, the man would have lost control of his vehicle for a still undetermined reason and would have come to hit the guardrail as he was heading towards Rennes.

When help arrived, the man was in cardiopulmonary arrest.

He could not be resuscitated and was declared dead by the SMUR doctor.

A 30-year-old woman who was in another vehicle was slightly injured in the crash.

She was transported to the Saint-Grégoire hospital center.

Seventeen firefighters were on site.

The collision caused significant slowdowns on the four-lane.
