The Pakistani imam of Villiers-le-Bel (Val d'Oise) prosecuted for “apologizing for terrorism by video” must be tried on Monday in immediate appearance, the Pontoise prosecutor's office said on Sunday.

This imam, born in 1987 and officiating in a mosque in this city of Val-d'Oise since 2016, was arrested on Thursday and taken into police custody as part of an investigation for "apologia for terrorism with the use of 'a telecommunications network'.

A deadline to prepare his defense?

The imam was sharing controversial videos on the social network TikTok, according to a source close to the investigation, who did not specify the content.

At the end of his police custody, he was brought before the Pontoise prosecutor's office on Saturday and placed in pre-trial detention by a judge of freedoms and detention (JLD) pending his appearance in court, reports the parquet.

Monday, he can agree to be tried in immediate appearance or ask for a delay to prepare his defense.
