Qatar's Minister of State for Defense Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Attiyah held talks with US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, on strengthening military and defense relations between the two countries.

This came in a meeting in Doha, which the US secretary arrived on Saturday, on an official visit, according to a statement by the Qatari Ministry of Defense.

The statement stated that the two sides reviewed bilateral relations in the military and defense fields and ways to enhance them, as well as a number of issues related to regional and international affairs, according to the same statement.

The visit comes a week after the Chargé d'Affairs at the Washington embassy in Doha announced the deployment of the first group of the Space Force at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

The Space Force was established by decision of US President Donald Trump on December 21, 2019.

The relations of the United States and Qatar in the military field are distinguished, as about 13 thousand American soldiers, most of them from the Air Force, are stationed at Al-Udeid base, 30 km southwest of the capital, Doha.
