Hundreds of soldiers are deployed in the Alpes-Maritimes after the severe bad weather that hit the department.

Among their missions: search for the missing and bring medical means by helicopter, but also water to isolated inhabitants.

Help disaster victims in addition to relief.

While the bad weather which fell on the Alpes-Maritimes department caused a great deal of damage, and eight missing, several hundred French soldiers were sent on site with a "double mission", explains to the microphone of Europe 1 Colonel Barbry.

The first part is of course to search for the missing, but also to help "the population, with the delivery of basic necessities (water, food, blankets ...) via helicopter".

Transporting basic necessities

An essential means of transport, since many roads in the Nice hinterland have been damaged by floods, or even completely destroyed in places.

"Maneuver helicopters" are also planned to "transport personnel" or "to extract the inhabitants of these sites from their difficult conditions".

Via the air, the army has already delivered "several generators" while 12,000 homes are still without electricity in the department.

Another mission of the soldiers sent in reinforcement on the spot: "to restore the axes of communication and and to clear the most seriously affected areas".
