In his speech on separatism delivered on Friday, Emmanuel Macron underlined the situation of some home-educated children who actually attend "unregistered structures".

"It can only be a tiny minority of all families," reacts an association Friday on Europe 1.

This is one of the flagship measures of the bill on separatism which will be presented on December 9 in the Council of Ministers.

From the start of the 2021 school year, home schooling will be very strictly limited and attendance in schools required from 3 years old.

In total, 50,000 children, or 0.5% of pupils, are concerned in France.

During his speech at Les Mureaux in Yvelines on Friday, Emmanuel Macron reported on the situation of some of his children who would attend underground schools.

"This motivation, supposedly to indoctrinate them, it can only be a tiny minority of all families", Gwenaële Spenlé, of the association Children first, Friday on Europe 1.

"These children go to structures that are not declared"

"Family education has always been authorized. The majority of families who educate their children in France, it is for the respect of the child, individual respect ... It is really to follow their needs", regrets the associative.

For his part, the Head of State stressed that "every week rectors and rectresses find cases of children totally outside the system".

"These children do not go to Cned (distance education) but in structures that are in no way declared", continued the Head of State.

"Walls, almost no window, women in niqab welcoming them, prayers, certain classes, this is their teaching."

Children assessed once a year by National Education

For half of the 50,000 children affected by the measure, medical reasons require them to stay at home.

For the others, more than 20,000, it is a decision of the parents who have the freedom to train their children at home.

These children are assessed once a year by national education inspectors.

But according to Jean-Michel Blanquer, 10,000 actually attend underground schools.

The bill announced by Emmanuel Macron should include exceptions.

Among them, we will find top athletes who cannot follow the lessons normally and children with health problems.
