“In early 2020, the German side officially informed the embassy of the decision to return more than 2.9 thousand icons and objects of sacred significance to the Russian Federation,” the diplomatic mission said.

According to Berlin, the items are in the customs department of the Ministry of Finance of the Federal Republic of Germany, specialists are engaged in packaging them for transportation to Russia.

It is noted that the embassy expects to receive more detailed information on the readiness of the cargo for shipment from the German side by the end of 2020.

According to the embassy, ​​specialists from the Russian Ministry of Culture provided evidence of the Russian origin of these items. 

In April, the FSB exposed the smugglers who were exporting platinum and palladium from Russia to Germany.
