Who should stay at home?

The Swedish Public Health Agency sees healthy adults living with a person diagnosed with covid-19 as potential cases of infection.

They must therefore stay at home for seven days from the date that someone in the home was diagnosed.

If the healthy people in the home do not show any symptoms, sampling is recommended after five days.

The new message from the Swedish Public Health Agency is a national recommendation, but will be implemented in the regions.

Depending on what the infection control looks like, the decisions may differ slightly from region to region.

Economic compensation

According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, those affected by the rules will be contacted by infection trackers in healthcare.

Anyone living with a person who has been diagnosed with covid-19 is recommended to work from home.

For those who have a job that cannot be performed remotely, it is possible to apply for carrier allowance from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

- If you are a relative and have received rules of conduct from the care that say that you should stay at home and can not work from home, you need a doctor's certificate for carrier support, says Emma Spak who is head of the section for Health and Medical Care at SKR.

Försäkringskassan states that it expects a larger influx of applications, but that it has the resources to handle this.

Children are exempt from the rules

Children who go to preschool or primary school do not have to stay at home just because someone in the home has been infected with covid-19.

However, the Swedish Public Health Agency has no answer as to what applies to picking up and dropping off children at preschool and school.

The authority refers to its general advice for reducing the spread of infection, which states that those who are ill should stay at home.

To Dagens Nyheter, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell says, however, that it is possible to pick up and drop off children at school and preschool.

People who only share certain living spaces with each other, for example student corridors, are also exempt from the rules.

The same applies to people who have detected antibodies in the last six months.
