01 October 2020In August, the growth in employment already recorded in July continues, the number of people looking for work continues to decline and the decrease in inactivity continues'.


This was announced by Istat.

The increase in employment on a monthly basis with a + 0.4% equal to + 83 thousand units, involves men and women, employees, self-employed and all age groups, especially under 35 years, + 1.0%, equal to + 50 thousand units.



25-year-old women and boys employed 


Overall, the employment rate rises to 58.1% (+0.2 percentage points).

The decrease in job seekers (-0.9% equal to -23 thousand units) concerns women and the over 25s, while among men and young people aged 15-24 the unemployed are increasing.

The unemployment rate drops to 9.7% (-0.1 points), but among young people it rises to 32.1% (+0.3 points).



The comparison with February 2020 is still negative


Istat points out that the level of employment is, however, still more than 350 thousand units lower than that of February 2020 and both the number of people looking for work, of about 70 thousand units, and the of the inactive, of over 250 thousand units.

The employment rate is nearly one percentage point lower, while the unemployment rate has steadily returned to above February levels.
