• Catastrophe: Death and destruction from fires in the western United States

The fires are not letting up in California.

After a devastating summer that left

at least 35 dead on the West Coast and more than 13,500 square kilometers burned

, the flames have once again put several populations in the north of the Golden State in check.

Two major fires, the Zogg and the Glass Fire, have already killed three people and destroyed more than 200 houses.

Napa and Sonoma counties, famous for their vineyards, are under fire for another year.

On Sunday, the Glass Fire completely destroyed one of California's most prestigious wineries, the

Chateau Boswell

.

Firefighters could do nothing to save its 41-year history, in a fire that grew from 8 hectares to 17,200 in 48 hours and has caused damage to vineyards and eight other wineries.

The Black Rock Inn, another of the most popular establishments in the area, was also totally destroyed.

In Napa and Sonoma alone, 80 private residences have been lost.

The factors are the same that fueled the fires in August, forcing 18,000 firefighters to deploy to California alone.

"Moderate winds, high temperatures, low humidity and the lack of resources will continue to be the challenge for firefighters to fight," the forest and fire authorities said in a statement.

At the moment, neither of those two great fires is contained.

The three deceased have not yet been identified.

According to the Shasta County Sheriff, about 250 miles north of San Francisco, they are working to confirm the names of the victims and notify their families.

The fire, which started Sunday afternoon near the town of Igo, about 17 kilometers southwest of Redding, has

about 1,500 homes under threat

.

They are familiar with these kinds of catastrophes in Shasta County.

Two years ago the Carr Fire killed eight people and consumed 93,000 hectares, in addition to calcining more than 1,600 buildings.

"We have faced these tragedies in this county before," said

Fire Chief Bret Gouvea

.

"One thing I know about Shasta County is that it is very resilient. We will be here until the end and this county will recover from this."
