Twelve new birth centers, in addition to the eight pre-existing ones, will be created in France, according to the 2021 social security financing bill (PLFSS) presented on Tuesday.

These places allow pregnant women to give birth without hospitalization.

Report in Paris in one of them.

REPORTAGE

In the 2021 social security financing bill (PLFSS), the government intends to deploy new birth centers in the territory.

These are places of low-medicalized and personalized support for pregnant women and their babies - in the event of a safe pregnancy.

There are only eight birth centers in France at present, which have been the subject of an experiment for five years.

And after a positive evaluation, the device will be extended: 12 new birth centers will be created.

Europe 1 takes you on a tour of one of those that already exist, in Paris, glued to the Armand-Trousseau hospital: a birth center called the "Calm".

No delivery table

"Calm is the acronym for 'Like at home', and what we try to do in the birth rooms is really that: that we feel at home there", presents Margaux Dassieu, member of Calm.

In this place, all parents can arrange their room to their liking.

"There is a large bathtub, a large double bed, we have groundsheets if the mother feels better for the work on the ground ...", she specifies.

What denotes compared to a classic hospital room is that there is no delivery table.

"We leave the freedom to mothers to choose the position in which they feel best ... and it is almost never lying on the back", testifies the young woman.

"You can have a healthy child AND a good delivery!"

Among the women who gave birth at Calm, Camille, whose first daughter was born in the hospital.

It had not gone well so for her second baby, she did not want to relive this experience.

"We go through hospitals in which there are a lot of deliveries. We have to go quickly, that's how it is, it's the baby industry: we are like cars that have to be mass produced. I hear around me, when my girlfriends tell about their childbirth, that there is an acceptance that things are not going well. But hey, it doesn't matter since the goal is to have a healthy child. And in fact, you can have a healthy child AND a good delivery! ", she says.

Because this is what the young woman claims to have had: a childbirth "much more respectful", she said.

Camille was even able to sleep with her partner and her newborn baby in the greatest calm ... far from the permanent background noise of a hospital.
