Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad sworn in as Emir of Kuwait

The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was sworn in on Wednesday morning as Emir of the country before the National Assembly, succeeding Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died on Tuesday at the age of 91, in the presence of the main members of the legislative and executive authorities, senior sheikhs and personalities in the state.

The session began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the swearing-in of the Emir of the country.

The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers declared Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Emir of the country after the death of Sheikh Sabah, and declared public mourning in Kuwait for forty days.

The new Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, is considered one of the most prominent figures in the modern history of Kuwait, as he had a great role in establishing the Ministry of Interior in its modern form and contributing to the development of Hawalli Governorate when he assumed its responsibilities.
