“In the near future I will meet with the oppositionist Tikhanovskaya,” she said.
Merkel said she admires the courage of women who take to the streets of Belarusian cities.
She also stressed that Germany does not recognize the election of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and condemns what is happening in the republic.
Tikhanovskaya previously announced a meeting with Merkel next week.
On September 29, Tihanovskaya met in Vilnius with French leader Emmanuel Macron.
