Today, Wednesday, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was sworn in as Emir of the State of Kuwait before the National Assembly, succeeding the late Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died at the age of 91.

The Amiri Diwan in the State of Kuwait announced yesterday the death of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, and the Kuwaiti Cabinet called on the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad (83 years) as the Emir of the country, in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.

In a speech after the constitutional oath, Sheikh Nawwaf said that we recall with fondness the directions and good advice of the late Emir, adding that we affirm our pride in our constitution and our democratic approach, and pledge to work for the security, stability and prosperity of the State of Kuwait.

Article 4 of the emirate inheritance law in Kuwait states that if the position of the Emir of the country becomes vacant, the Crown Prince shall be called an Emir.

On February 7, 2006, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued an Amiri order recommending him as Crown Prince, to be pledged allegiance on the 20th of the same month by the National Assembly unanimously.

On July 18, the late Emir decided that Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf would temporarily assume some of the constitutional prerogatives of the Emir of the country, after the prince was hospitalized for medical examinations.

According to the aforementioned article, the Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf assumes the position of emirate.

Sheikh Nawwaf held several ministerial positions and higher responsibilities in the State of Kuwait, including the position of Minister of Interior, in which he was appointed in 1978, and he also held the Ministry of Defense twice.

Sheikh Nawwaf is considered one of the most prominent political figures that have witnessed the process of building the State of Kuwait since it gained its independence in 1962, and one of the contributors to building modern Kuwait, laying its foundations and achieving its renaissance.

Sheikh Nawwaf is also considered the true founder and spiritual father of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, as he carried her bag on two terms during the reign of his half-brother, the late Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah, the first stretching from March 19, 1978 to February 26, 1988, before returning to the formation. On July 13, 2003, the government was appointed as deputy prime minister and minister of the interior.

During his two terms in office, Sheikh Nawwaf worked on developing a strategy for an integrated security system, modernizing security sectors, developing and promoting police work, based on his main goal of maintaining security and stability for Kuwait and its people.

On January 26, 1988, he was appointed Minister of Defense, a position that he returned to occupy again on June 20, 1990, and while he was in the ministry, he worked on modernizing and developing the defense system.
