The former president of the Generalitat

Quim Torra

has presented this Tuesday an appeal to the Constitutional Court for violation of fundamental rights after the Supreme Court disqualified him for a crime of disobedience by refusing to remove the yellow ties from the public buildings of the Govern.

In the claim for protection, to which EL MUNDO has had access, the independence leader requests the adoption of urgent precautionary measures and agrees to suspend the penalty of special disqualification from public office to avoid "irreparable damage."

In the appeal, the defense of Torra, exercised by

Gonzalo Boye

, criticizes the "unusual speed" with which the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia executed the ruling of the High Court "a few minutes after the sentence was made public."

According to Torra, a spurious use has been made "of the criminal process to give an alleged patina of legality to what constitutes a true constitutional fraud: the overthrow of the Government of the Generalitat arising from the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia on December 21, 2017 , with its president at the helm, by non-democratic and only apparently legal means ".
